About Pure Power
CURRENT Pure Power Ameren MO logo

Ameren Missouri Pure Power is an easy, affordable way to have a positive impact on the environment today - and every day.

Pure Power allows Ameren Missouri customers to choose to support the development of local renewable energy, like wind power, by purchasing Renewable Energy Credits (RECs).

Here's how Pure Power works.
There are three options for residential customers to choose from: (1) The 100% Option adds an extra penny and a half for each kilowatt hour of energy you use; (2) The Block Option  adds a flat $15 per month for 1000 kilowatt hours of use; or (3) The Half-Block Option adds a flat $7.50 per month for 500 kilowatt hours of use.

It's a simple thing you can do each month to live an eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle, without even trying. Visit our website to learn more. Enrolling just takes a few seconds.

What would happen if Ameren Missouri customers introduced more than 76 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of green power into our Missouri grid? It would have the same emissions reduction impact as taking 10,443 cars off the road for an entire year. If that sounds impressive, it should. And you should be proud to have been a part of this accomplishment.

In 2010, Ameren Missouri Pure Power customers like you collectively made an emissions reduction equal to eliminating the burning of 285 rail cars of coal. What's more, 100% of the wind power Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) purchased via Pure Power came from Missouri wind farms. And this year, Pure Power once again plans to be 100% powered by Missouri wind.

Why Missouri wind? Buying wind power close to home helps reduce emissions in our state and provides jobs, income, and tax revenue in local communities.Movie Popcorn

EV's put drivers on the road to sustainability
Chevy Volt
The Chevy Volt retails at $32,780 and costs only about $1.50 per day to operate.

Rising gasoline prices and purchase incentives on electric vehicles (EVs) make driving a car that runs on little or no gas an appealing proposition for many motorists. That's why when the St. Louis Auto Show rolled into town in January, your friends at Ameren Missouri Pure Power lined up with thousands of other guests to check out the EVs on display.

With so many options, you may have questions like, "What are the different types of electric vehicles that are commercially available?"

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) have been on the market for several years. HEVs run on both a gasoline-powered engine and an electric motor. The motor is powered by a battery that recharges using energy from the vehicle's braking and coasting systems.

Plug-in electric vehicles will be available both in hybrid (PHEV) and electric-only (BEV) models. Because these vehicles have larger batteries than HEVs, drivers must recharge them by plugging in to a standard electric outlet or, for faster charging, a higher powered charging station.

After a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) uses most of its battery power, a back-up gasoline-powered engine kicks in to extend the driving range of the vehicle.

The electric-only or battery-powered electric vehicle (BEV) runs solely on electricity, without a back-up gasoline engine. Once the battery runs out, the vehicle must be recharged before it can be driven again.

Recharging times vary depending on several factors. The distance these plug-in vehicles can travel on battery power alone varies by make and model, from 10 miles to 100 miles. And cost? On average, Ameren Missouri customers will pay less than a dollar for a 40-mile recharge, compared to three dollars or more to fuel even a high economy car at the pump. To learn about specific brands of electric vehicles, go to each car manufacturer's website.

A new electric vehicle owner will use about 2,500 kWh of energy a year charging the car at home.As a Pure Power customer, that means you would actually offset the coal-generated electricity with wind power electric "fuel ups" and drive away with a green conscience.

Meet the ReStore - a Pure Power leader
DIY composter
Make your own composter at Habitat for Humanity St. Louis ReStore's next Composting Demonstration on April 13th.
Participating in Ameren Missouri Pure Power is one piece of a larger commitment to sustainability for the Habitat for Humanity St. Louis ReStore.

For the past two years, the ReStore has supported Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis as it built LEED Platinum Certified homes in the St. Louis community.

"We've been working hard to address our environmental impact on the construction site and at the ReStore," explains ReStore manager Jeremy Idleman. "The Pure Power program has fit perfectly with this goal."

Located in a warehouse-style storefront at 3763 Forest Park, the ReStore offers a wide variety of new and reusable building materials and home remodeling supplies. The ReStore accepts tax-deductible donations of these items from individuals and companies and resells them to the public at deeply discounted prices. Not only does this help the buyer reduce costs, but it also helps the whole St. Louis community reduce its carbon footprint by facilitating reuse and recycling. Last year, the ReStore diverted more than 5,000 tons of materials from area landfills!

The store's inventory changes daily as donors drop off potential treasures, so you never know what you may find from one shopping excursion to the next. And all of the ReStore's profits support Habitat for Humanity St. Louis in building affordable and sustainable homes in partnership with families in need.

The ReStore also offers a free demonstration series, combining reuse with collecting rain water, composting organic waste and gardening. Visit the ReStore website for a schedule of upcoming demonstrations.

Next month, the City of Clayton will become the first EPA Green Power Community in Missouri.

To earn this recognition, Clayton businesses and residents now support more than 670,000 kWh of green power each month, which has the same monthly carbon reduction as eliminating the burning of 2.5 railcars of coal. Save the date and plan to attend the Clayton celebration Wednesday, April 20th, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in Shaw Park.
