GPC-goal

Calculating the Challenge Goal

The Chart below has the guidelines from the EPA to be used in determining required levels of Green Power purchasesforparticular communities.

  • The City of Clayton’s 2010 collective usage was – 421,839,380 kWh which would require a 3% Green Power purchasing level across the City to achieve EPA Green Power Community Status. 3% of consumption would equal 12,655,181 kWh.
  • This would require an aggregate total purchase by all City located entities of 1054 MWh per month.  (12,655,181/1000 kWh/MWh = 12,655 MWh blocks per year / 12 months = 1,054 MWh / month.)  Note- the graphic represents the 2% goal which was achieve in April of 2011.
  • October 2011 City of Clayton Business and Residential participation = 860 MWh per month.  Total needed to qualify = 194 MWh.
  • This equates to getting approximately 200 Households and 4-5 businesses to either enroll in Pure Power or agree to install Solar.(These numbers are  meant as one example, the actual mix of households and residents could vary, just so long as the total of 3% is achieved.
  • By reaching a 3% green power purchasing level, the city of Clayton will prevent almost 19,226,351 pounds* of carbon dioxide, a leading greenhouse gas, from entering the atmosphere, each year. This is the same environmental benefit provided by taking 1,710 cars off the road* each year. (Source)
